Excited to share with our audience a couple of our team members and how they are living out their most fabulous dreams!

Introducing, Jonona!

What is your role at Mulberry and Grand?

I am as a sales associate! I greet and assist in what our lovely customers want or need. I help customers in selecting the right product & educate them on the brand and all of our different styles. I’m able to meet so many, new interesting people from all over the world. I enjoy getting to know each of our customers and be apart of their experience at our store!

Tell us a bit about you & your background!

I was born in Tajikistan, a country located in Central Asia. Dushanbe, is the small city where I grew up, a beautiful place that is surrounded by mountains, and where everyone knows each other. My family’s Persian heritage, is known as one of the oldest in the world. In our culture, people are family-oriented, sincere, and known for friendliness and hospitality. We have a strong folk art tradition across the nation, particularly with the creation of textiles, embroidery and other decorative arts that are based on nature.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

At the age of 2 I didn’t know how to speak, yet, but I knew how to hold a pencil. With my tiny fingers, I would hold my pencil and start drawing circles, faces, and even stick figures. From then on, my parents always knew that I would become an artist. I realized that I wanted to give people a piece of art to wear, and to create pieces of clothing that contain a deeper message about life. I knew that becoming a fashion designer would give me delight in my everyday life!

Who in life inspires you to follow your dreams?

My inspiration comes from the people I love- like, my family, who always supports and believes in me. The person that inspires me to follow my dreams is my mom. When things get hard, she tells me to keep going and never give up. She always pushes me to try to reach my full potential and work hard in becoming the best version of myself.

New York is a very progressive place to live in; as it comes to equal rights. Do you feel like you face any issues of inequality because of your race or gender?

For me, living in New York, has never been an issue of inequality because of my race. Instead, it is amazing how this city welcomes people from different nations. I am proud to live here, because everyone respects each other’s culture and beliefs. This city is home for millions of immigrants, and living in such a city excites me with the idea that being different is being unique.

Why do you think it’s important for our country to recognize and celebrate different diversities?

Cultural diversity has become very significant in today’s world, especially in the United States. Celebrating our differences, as well as our common interests, help unite and educate each other. Honoring each other’s backgrounds makes us recognize and respect others way of living, that are not necessarily our own. The more we celebrate diversity, the more we will be able to notice it’s beauty.
