What is your “title” at M&G?
Regional Manager of M&G
Take us through a day in the life at M&G in your shoes. Do you have any routines or rituals you find important?
Everyday is totally different for me! But I could say my usual routine is making sure all the stores open in the morning (not as easy as it sounds!!), and to make sure everything is running smoothly. Then, I go on to making myself a to-do-list that changes everyday (literally) and then I get started with the help of some coffee 🙂
How did you get started at M&G?
Emily asked if I would want to work with her for her new brand/store Mulberry & Grand. At the time I was working at Studio Manhattan (Emily’s husband, Ayhan’s brand). I was ready for some change and so I took her up on the offer! So, you can say I was there from the very first day helping prepare to open our first store.
What’s one thing that surprised you in your career path up until now?
It was surprising that throughout the years in management, I learned how to manage to have a serious conversation with my coworkers about their performances but then to lighten the mood to make sure everyone is happy again!! Serious but happy is my goal.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite thing about my job is that I get to meet new people and hear their personalities. Being able to learn something new and different through connecting with new people is great.
Another favorite is having my thoughts and ideas being valued.
What’s the most challenging thing about your job?
Most challenging thing about my job is not being able to have some “me” time. Even when I’m not physically at one of the stores or working at the office, I am always answering team questions, solving issues or planning my next project. Safe to say I am always on my phone- working.
What do you wanna be when you grow up?
Im still trying to figure it out.. but i would love to have ideas worth spreading AKA go on TED talks. Okay maybe also a published author … so many things!!
You are originally from Turkey, and that’s really different from NYC. (What isn’t, though?) What was it like moving to such a big city?
I migrated here with my family a long time ago. I started high school here and with very little English, it was very challenging for me to adopt to the culture and life here in NY. Luckily I had my family with me and I met great people along the way which made it easier. By the time I graduated high school, New York felt like home.
Other than fashion, what other things inspire you or are you passionate about?
I’m very passionate about people and understanding the human mind. I actually studied Psychology in college so that really helps me connect and help all the people I work with. & also lately I’ve really been into cooking so I plan to take some cooking classes soon!
Tell us something weird about yourself.
A: I get super impatient while getting my nails done so I can never wait until they are fully dry. An hour into my fresh manicure, one of my nails get messed up every single time. Sooo annoying. But i do it every time..
